Honouring a Father’s Dream: Noni’s Bibbulmun Track Walk Raises Vital Funds for Blue Dot Army

Updated: Feb 27

In 2023, Noni Kohler set out on a deeply personal journey, walking the 1,000km Bibbulmun Track in memory of her father, Gazza. Her goal? To raise much-needed funds for Blue Dot Army, so that we can continue to support cancer patients and their families.

Gazza’s Legacy

Gazza, as Noni’s father was affectionately known, was a man full of life and laughter. A true larrikin, he loved telling Dad jokes and always had a funny story to share. His signature dance routine to "I'm a Believer" by The Monkees never failed to bring smiles to his family. But behind the joy he brought others, Gazza battled prostate cancer, a disease that claimed his life. Even in his hardest moments, Gazza remained immensely grateful for the care and support he received, and he dreamt of giving back by helping others facing similar struggles.

One of Gazza's greatest wishes was to complete the Bibbulmun Track with Noni after his health improved. Together, they planned to walk the 1,000km route to raise funds for cancer patients, particularly those from rural communities like their hometown of Collie, where access to medical treatment can be challenging. Sadly, Gazza passed away before they could fulfil this dream.

A Walk for a Cause

Determined to carry on her father's legacy, Noni embarked on the journey they had planned together. On the 31st of August 2023, exactly one year after Gazza’s passing, she began her solo trek along the Bibbulmun Track. With every step, Noni not only honoured her father’s memory but also raised vital funds for Blue Dot Army. Her efforts were a testament to her father’s spirit and his desire to help others on their cancer journey.

The impact of Noni’s walk has been extraordinary. Thanks to the support of countless individuals who donated to the cause, Blue Dot Army was able to purchase a second vehicle. This vehicle will be used to assist cancer patients by providing transportation to and from medical appointments. For families facing the logistical and financial burdens of cancer treatment, this vehicle represents a lifeline.

A Continuing Call for Support

The funds raised from Noni’s Bibbulmun Track walk have enabled Blue Dot Army to extend its reach, making a real difference in the lives of cancer patients, especially those living in regional and rural communities who struggle to access the care they need. Although Noni’s fundraiser has concluded, the need for support remains. Blue Dot Army relies on donations and volunteers to continue its important work. Whether you choose to donate, volunteer your time, or get involved in future fundraising events, your contribution can make a significant difference in the lives of cancer patients.

By supporting Blue Dot Army, you help ensure that no one fights cancer alone. Every dollar raised allows the organisation to provide essential services, from transportation to emotional care, giving patients and their families hope and relief during difficult times.

Together, we can continue Gazza’s legacy and make sure that people on their cancer journey receive the support they deserve.

Donate to Blue Dot Army today and help us continue making a difference.
