Kathy's Story: The Gift of Time on a Cancer Journey

Updated: May 8

Time is fleeting

Kathy’s Journey to Perth for Treatment

Kathy came over to Perth from Cairns to have her treatment. When a person is diagnosed with cancer we sometimes forget the effect it has on those closest to us.

Kathy's sister Margaret flew over from Melbourne to be with her during her treatment time. It was evident the bond between them is extremely strong and both went through the cancer journey, albeit in a different way. They celebrated her last treatment, thanks to our #Change500 program with a Blue Dot Army voucher from a local cafe. Together their smiles light up the photo.

Kathy returned to Perth for continuing treatment.

One day, Madam Butterfly, took some chairs and with Kathy, together, they sat down by the South Perth foreshore. They didn't even know what time it was when they left that afternoon. It was so peaceful; sitting and seeing the beauty of the sun with its reflection. A reminder to us all to take the time to enjoy the beauty of the day around us.

Time passes ...

Kathy has passed ...

Memories stay with us …

The Passing of Time: Remembering Kathy

Kathy's sister, Margaret was visiting family in Perth. She stopped by to have an ice cream and chat with Madam Butterfly. They remembered the good times and the hard times and the beautiful soul of her sister.

What can you give someone who is on a cancer journey?

Our answer is simple, TIME.

Time to sit, time to reflect, time to reset, time to ponder, time to think, time to share stories, time to listen, time to laugh, time to cry. It is a privilege when people allow you to walk some of their path on a cancer journey. Blue Dot Army and the volunteers give people space and time away from the intensity of treatments, to allow some normal parts of everyday life to continue; shopping locally, sitting by the river or coast and taking a moment to pause and breathe.

How You Can Help: Support Blue Dot Army

Donating to Blue Dot Army allows our volunteers to spend time with people, be a friend in the waiting room when they are far from home and take them to appointments. Funds go to keeping our Blue Dot cars on the road and keeping our volunteers out and about supporting people on a cancer journey.

Like Margaret, Kathy's sister, who returned to say hello, our clients and supporters are always part of our Blue Dot Army. Thank you for being part of our journey, we couldn't do it without you.

Donate to Blue Dot Army – Your contribution helps others focus on healing, without the anxiety of navigating an unfamiliar city and allows our volunteers to keep on supporting people at a challenging time.
